Erdogan disinterested in outcomes of potential Ukraine-Russia negotiations — foreign affairs expert Danilov
Serhiy Danilov, Deputy Director of the Center for Middle East Studies, believes that Erdogan's initiatives regarding the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are aimed only at improving his political image
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Erdogan's initiatives regarding negotiations between Ukraine and Russia have not influenced the progress of the talks. Presently, Erdogan is actively seeking opportunities to reassert himself as a negotiator and mediator. He is making every effort to position Ankara as a platform for potential negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. He is not interested in the content and results of the negotiations. It is important for him to present the negotiations themselves as a victory," Danilov explained.
The expert noted that Erdogan will consider any outcome of potential negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to be positive for him.
"If the Ukrainian delegation is brought to Ankara, it will be a victory for Erdogan. If the parties sign a protocol, it will also be a great result for him. That is, no matter the outcome and content of the negotiations, Erdogan will be satisfied in any case. That is why all his activity is aimed at obtaining positive results for himself from these potential negotiations," he added.
