Drone Battle: Ukrainian Special Forces show how they stop Russian assaults
Two Ukrainian special forces soldiers, Scout and Tyrol, have been working together for over two years to destroy the invading Russian forces. The first one uses reconnaissance drones to survey the territory and identify enemy positions, and the other one uses FPV strike drones to hit and neutralize the target
This was reported by the police of the Chernivtsi region.
Police officers became professional UAV operators
Soldiers call a military confrontation with the enemy a battle of the 'birds'. Once a criminal investigation officer, now a Special Forces officer Scout, who changed his career path due to the war, says he has never regretted his choice.

"I decided for myself that I needed to acquire new knowledge, improve my skills in the unit, and successfully completed courses on flying Mavic and 'kamikaze' drones.
The crew consists of at least two people: an operator who controls the drone and a navigator who accompanies the flight using interactive maps. The latter guides where and how to fly, what to find, and turns back using pre-set benchmarks," says Scout.
A surveyor by profession and a climber by vocation, Tyrol has been fascinated by mountains since his youth. When the question arose of where to go to work with like-minded people to repel the enemy, the choice was obvious: KORD (Rapid Operational Response Unit - ed.)!

"February 2022 found me in the Tyrol ski region of Austria. Without hesitation, I packed my bags and immediately came home. It was no accident that I chose this call sign, because the feeling of freedom that overwhelmed me while climbing in the alpine mountains still drives me. Already in the KORD I mastered the specialization of an FPV drone operator, because for me it is not just a 'good flight', it is the application of a symbiosis of knowledge in physics, engineering and electronics that allows me to save the lives of Ukrainians."
Destroying an enemy IFV through a small hole
During their service in the police during the war, the Special Forces took part in assault missions and counterattacks. Tyrol considers the destruction of a Russian infantry fighting vehicle with the help of a 'kamikaze bird' to be one of the most successful.
"It was in the Kherson direction. My colleagues and I had a special task: to hit and destroy a target disguised under the roof of a building. The hole was small, about the size of the drone itself, so we had to "play around" with accuracy, but the result was pleasing: Russia's equipment was destroyed!" Tyrol recalls.
According to the police, drone operators must have consistent and precise steps to rely on professionalism rather than luck.
"A drone operator is a person who must constantly learn, because the enemy is insidious and does not stand still. The one who controls the 'birds' must make clear decisions quickly, because circumstances can change during the flight and must be responded to accordingly. Often, this person is responsible for the entire crew, as well as the further expediency of the operation," says Scout.
