Russian strategic bombers are burning in broad daylight on June 1 as Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) launches drone strikes on military airfields deep inside Russian territory, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
Video footage featuring the voice of SBU chief Lt. Gen. Vasyl Maliuk, who can be heard commenting on the attack: “This is how the Belaya airfield looks right now — enemy strategic aviation in flames.”
According to the source, the SBU is conducting a large-scale special operation aimed at destroying Russia’s bomber fleet responsible for nightly airstrikes on Ukrainian cities.
As of now, more than 40 aircraft have reportedly been damaged or destroyed, including A-50 surveillance planes, as well as Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the damage to Russian aircraft exceeds $2 billion. According to Ukrainska Pravda, the SBU targeted four Russian military airfields simultaneously.
