Destruction of S-300/400 near Belgorod reduces Russia’s ability to attack Kharkiv — military expert Prytula

SBU reserve colonel and military counterintelligence expert Mykhailo Prytula believes the destruction of the S-300/400 systems in the Belgorod region is a result of the US allowing strikes on Russia with Western weapons

He shared this view on Espreso TV.

"I watched as they destroyed the S-300/400 systems stationed near Belgorod, which probably launched missiles at Kharkiv. I think this will stop them because the main weapon used to target Kharkiv was the S-300 missiles. They have plenty, but they’re old. These missiles can fire in 'ground-to-ground' mode, making them suitable for terrorizing the population despite their low accuracy," Prytula emphasized.

The military expert believes Russia's tactics will change following the destruction of these missile systems.

"Wanting to destroy Kharkiv is one thing, but the reality has changed. With Western high-tech weapons, it will be tough for them to do anything to Kharkiv now. They can't bring in the S-300 or S-400 systems or their launchers. Their only options left are using Shahed drones and cruise missiles, which, by the way, were also once manufactured in Kharkiv," said the SBU reserve colonel.

Background

On June 3, S-300/400 anti-aircraft missile systems were attacked in the Belgorod region of Russia.

The Institute for the Study of War notes that the damage occurred in a field east of Kiselyov and north of Belgorod. The Russian S-300/400 system was located approximately 60 km from the front line and more than 80 km from Kharkiv. At the same time, Russian propagandists immediately stated that the air defense equipment was destroyed by the American M142 HIMARS system.

So far, Ukrainian officials have not commented on the situation.

Ukrainian journalist and military expert Serhii Zgurets noted that permission to strike with Western weapons has already given the first results.
