Reuters reported the news.

The law will require women in Denmark to register for potential military service. Previously, women were allowed to join the army voluntarily; in 2024, women made up 24% of all new recruits.

In Denmark’s draft system, volunteers register first, and then others are selected by lottery.

"In the world situation we're in right now, it's necessary to have more conscripts, and I think that women should contribute to that equally, as men do," said Katrine, a new recruit in the Danish Royal Guard.

  • On Tuesday, July 1, Denmark officially took over the presidency of the Council of the European Union from Poland. It will last until the end of 2025.
