Military expert Valerii Riabykh has explained how lifting restrictions could provide Ukraine with weapons even if U.S. aid stops

He shared his opinion on Espreso TV.

"The President of the United States, of course, defends the interests of the United States. And the main intent here is precisely the promotion of the interests of arms and military equipment manufacturers. Naturally, lifting various restrictions that may have existed in the United States on transferring weapons through intermediaries to other countries, including Ukraine, is part of this. This could also be related to developing several supply routes for weapons to Ukraine. One of these potential routes is when Europe finances the purchase of arms to enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and provide necessary weapons to prevent the Russia from resuming large-scale aggression in the future, after possible agreements," he said.

According to Valerii Riabykh, it is noteworthy that such information emerges amid reports of negotiations between the United States and Russia.

"Another possible way to supply weapons to Ukraine could be the direct transfer of arms under a scheme previously referred to as lend-lease, where weapons would be provided with future payment obligations. Of course, depending on any agreements reached, the form of payment could change. We have also heard statements that the U.S. wants guarantees of such payments and is willing to consider access to Ukrainian resources as a form of compensation. Clearly, such informational reports are being used to cover and secure future agreements, which in turn influences the positions of the involved parties. However, I also want to emphasize that all of this is happening while Ukraine's Defense Forces continue striking the occupying Russian army, including deep into Russian territory," he stated.

The military expert also pointed out that the U.S. does not criticize Ukraine’s successful strikes on Russian targets.

"And we do not currently see any statements from the American side suggesting that such actions should not be carried out. This indicates that Ukraine's Armed Forces and Defense Forces are active participants in these negotiations, ensuring Ukraine's bargaining position. At the same time, they are also supporting the stance of countries interested in bringing the Russian Federation to peace," Valerii Ryabykh believes.

  • On February 17, it was reported that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed readiness to allow European countries to purchase American weapons for Ukraine. This decision could ensure Kyiv's access to military equipment even if U.S. military aid is halted.
