
By striking peaceful cities, Russia tries to force civilians to demand surrender
Russia’s attacks on residential buildings in peaceful cities have one aim — to scare people behind the frontlines and push them to pressure the government into surrendering
This is classic terrorist logic: “Give in to my demands, or I’ll kill more hostages.” We usually see this in movies, where the death of one, two, or five people is treated as a tragedy. But holding an entire country hostage and killing dozens or hundreds daily — even screenwriters wouldn’t go that far.
Ukraine is fighting a war it cannot afford to lose. Putin knows he can’t beat the army, so he’s trying to break civilians, using standard tools of terror.
There are plenty of questions for Ukraine's partners today. But the first one that comes to mind: what do you feel when terrorists with nukes send you birthday wishes?
