UK intelligence analyzes impact of Russia's February attacks on Ukraine's energy system

In February 2024, Russia launched attacks on Ukrainian regional energy facilities, employing drone strikes among other methods. Despite these attempts, Ukraine successfully maintained the stable operation of its energy system

The UK Defense Ministry's report says this.

The report highlights that Russia executed drone strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, focusing on the power industry.

UK intelligence reveals that Ukrainian Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted the drones. However, the strikes likely inflicted damage on Ukrainian power plants and electrical substations, particularly in Donetsk, Dnipro, and as far west as Lviv.

The UK Ministry of Defense suggests that the Russian attacks involved a combination of 'kamikaze' drones, surface-to-surface missile systems, and conventional rocket artillery, differing from the long-range Russian aircraft used in 2022 and 2023.

It is quite likely that Russia tried to attack regional energy facilities to disrupt the industry in Ukraine. Despite these attacks, Ukraine's power grid maintains stable operation, as emphasized by British intelligence.
