Boryspil airport ready to resume operations within three weeks upon flight permit approval

Espreso correspondent Dmytro Didora visited Boryspil airport.

The airport is presently devoid of passengers and visitors, with only airport staff present. The workforce, numbering over 3,500 individuals, remains dedicated to their duties, striving to expedite the restoration of airport operations.

According to Ihor Riabokon, head of the working group on the resumption of Boryspil airport operations, it will take three weeks after receiving flight permits to fully restore the airport's operations, to receive and depart flights in the usual mode. 

Boryspil emphasizes that the international airport has been closed since February 24, 2022, when Ukraine's airspace was closed. Not a single civilian flight has taken off from the airport during this period.

Nevertheless, airport employees maintain all airport infrastructure and equipment in good condition on a daily basis to ensure that operations can resume as soon as the security situation allows.

• In January, Rostyslav Shurma, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, emphasized at a panel discussion at Ukraine House Davos that Ukraine is making efforts to restore air traffic from Kyiv and Lviv, which was interrupted by the outbreak of a major war in February 2022.
