Biden’s administration prepares Ukraine for globalized war in 2025: journalist on ATACMS strikes on Russia

Journalist Vitaly Portnikov believes that the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war is driving a global rise in conflicts, setting the stage for a long-term clash between democracies and dictatorships

He said this on Espreso TV.

"Ukraine is a battleground for Russia, and this will not change. Putin is prepared to continue the war against our state at any cost. The Kremlin's reaction to Erdogan's peace plan, proposing a freeze along the front lines, once again demonstrates that the destruction of Ukraine and the continuation of a war of attrition until the elimination of Ukrainian statehood remain key goals for the Russian president. What Putin specifically intends to do with Ukraine is unclear, as his ultimate aim is to destroy our state, using any available weaponry, except perhaps nuclear arms for now, to achieve this goal. And this approach will remain unchanged in the coming years," Portnikov emphasized.

According to the journalist, if there were no change in power in the U.S., Russia might have attempted to strike at American interests. What could this mean? Providing long-range weapons to escalate the situation in the Middle East, which could deal a serious blow to U.S. positions. However, considering that the U.S. will soon have a new president, such a move is not currently beneficial for Putin. It’s clear that if a high level of escalation occurs in the Middle East — which is likely — it would harm Donald Trump’s position, as he, like most Americans, is far more concerned about a Middle Eastern conflict than Russia's war against Ukraine.

"However, if it becomes clear that Donald Trump is incapable of understanding Vladimir Putin's interests or aligning with them — and this is entirely possible — then by February or March, Russia might take steps to significantly escalate the situation in the Middle East and globalize the war. Escalation on the Korean Peninsula is also possible, leading to heightened tensions and globalized warfare in the early months of 2025," Portnikov explained.

Vitaly Portnikov added that Biden's decision to allow strikes deep into Russia with ATACMS missiles indicates that analysts in his administration recognize the inevitability of globalized conflicts and are preparing Ukraine for participation in such a broader conflict, which will undoubtedly surpass the war in Ukraine in scale and consequences.

"The inevitable continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian war is leading to the global escalation of conflicts worldwide. These will shape the confrontation between the civilized world and dictatorial regimes in the coming decades and will become a reality not only for Ukrainians, who are already participants and hostages of this conflict, but also for millions of people in other countries," Portnikov concluded.

  • United States President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to strike at Russian territory with American long-range missiles.
