Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal wrote this on X.

The minister noted that these funds will be in addition to the €1 billion in military aid Belgium has already provided.

“I am grateful to my colleague Theo Francken, as well as the Belgian people and government, for supporting Ukraine in our fight for freedom,” Shmyhal added.

  • The U.S. and NATO launched a new mechanism for providing American weapons to Ukraine - the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) - which is funded through contributions from other Alliance members.
  • Under PURL, the Netherlands has prepared a $500 million aid package for Ukraine, including components and missiles for the Patriot air defense system.
  • On August 24, it was reported that Norway is allocating about 7 billion kroner (around $695.7 million) for Ukraine’s air defense.
