At least 15 million Ukrainians in need of humanitarian aid — UN Secretary-General
The UN estimates that at least 15 million people in Ukraine are in need of humanitarian aid as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced this during a speech at a UN Security Council meeting in New York, as reported by Ukrinform.
Antonio Guterres noted that despite incredible challenges, the UN continues its involvement by maintaining the largest international presence in Ukraine. He mentioned that this year alone, together with partners, they have provided life-saving assistance to over 6.2 million people. However, Guterres emphasized the need for support from the international community, pointing out that 15 million residents of Ukraine require humanitarian aid, more than half of whom are women and children.
The Secretary General clarified that the full-scale war has forced almost 10 million people in Ukraine to flee their homes. According to him, more than 11,000 civilians have been killed during Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
