U.S. diplomat Herbst: Congress would pressure Trump if aid stopped
American diplomat John Herbst noted that a significant number of congressmen have doubts about Trump’s stance on Putin
He expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV broadcast.
“Obviously, the President of the United States is the most influential person in the U.S., if not the whole world. Accordingly, he makes the decisions he believes are right. Of course, the president listens to his advisers and must also take into account the opinion of Congress. It is known that quite many congressmen doubt the correctness of Trump’s position regarding Putin,” John Herbst commented.
According to him, the criticism Trump has faced in recent weeks forced him to slightly change his stance and start talking about sanctions against Russia.
“If Trump stopped military aid to Ukraine, in my opinion, Congress would start pressuring him. If he did so, I think he would cease to be seen as a strong leader who can guarantee security,” the American diplomat concluded.
