755 Ukrainian National Guardsmen remain in Russian captivity – NGU commander
The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU), Oleksandr Pivnenko, reported that 755 National Guardsmen remain in Russian captivity
He disclosed this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"755. Many were captured in Mariupol. That's why there is still a large proportion of Azov fighters and fighters from other units of ours, whom we are trying to return," stated Pivnenko.
According to him, the National Guardsmen are being returned in nearly every exchange. "I always emphasize that our task is to bring everyone home," added the NGU commander.
Pivnenko noted that after returning from captivity, the fighters go to medical rehabilitation centers. They are given "2-3 days to adapt, calmly figure things out, restore all documents, etc."
The commander of the NGU informed that units and officers of social support work to resolve all other issues of social protection, providing information on the possibility of further service, training, or dismissal.
"Someone goes back to the front after being captured and says: I want to join my boys, I will fight," said Pivnenko.
- On July 17, 95 Ukrainian defenders were returned from Russian captivity, including 21 NGU servicemen.
