Ukraine reports 196 combat clashes on May 9, heaviest fighting in Pokrovsk sector

On May 9, 196 combat clashes were recorded along the Russian-Ukrainian frontline, with Ukrainian forces repelling 65 Russian assaults in the Pokrovsk sector

Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff informed this in its report as of 8:00 a.m.

 “Yesterday, the Russian aggressors launched 34 air strikes on the Ukrainian positions and localities, including 69 guided bombs. In addition, it carried out over 4,100 attacks, 35 of which were from multiple launch rocket systems, and used 2,174 kamikaze drones to attack. 

4 settlements in the Sumy region were hit by Russian airstrikes,“ the General Staff noted.

They added that over the past day, the aviation, missile forces and artillery of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit seven areas of concentration of personnel and equipment, one control center for unmanned aerial vehicles, three artillery systems and two other important targets of the Russian invaders.

Frontline update

In the Kharkiv sector, the aggressor stormed the Ukrainian troops' positions near Vovchansk six times.

In the Kupiansk sector, three Russian attacks took place on May 9. The Ukrainian defense forces defeated the Russian assault in the areas of Zahryzove and Nova Kruhliakivka.

In the Lyman sector, the Russian troops attacked 17 times. He tried to advance near Lipove, Ridkodub, Yampolivka and in the direction of Hrekivka, Novyi Myr, and Zelena Dolyna.

In the Siversk sector, the Russian forces made eight attacks on the Ukrainian troops' positions near Bilohorivka, Hryhorivka and Verkhniokamianske.

In the Kramatorsk sector, ten combat engagements were registered in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, Kurdiumivka and in the direction of Oleksandro-Shultyne.

In the Toretsk sector, the Russian forces carried out 15 attacks near Dachne, Dyliivka, Shcherbynivka and Toretsk.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped 65 Russian offensives in the areas of Oleksandropil, Novotoretske, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novooleksandrivka, Nova Poltavka, Promin, Yelyzavetivka, Dachanske, Zvirove, Udachne, Kotliarivka, Andriivka, Lysivka, Novoserhiivka and in the direction of Muravka, Zoria, Myroliubivka, Malynivka, Novomykolaivka and Troitske.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces fought off 31 attacks on the Ukrainian troops' positions near the towns of Bahatyr, Kostiantynopil, Odradne, Rivne, Novosilka, Vilne Pole, Pryvilne and in the direction of Novopil, Shevchenko and Zelene Pole.

In the Huliaipole sector, the Russian troops did not conduct any offensive actions yesterday.

In the Orikhiv sector, Ukrainian troops successfully repelled six Russian attacks in the areas of Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove and Shcherbaky.

Yesterday, in the Prydniprovsky sector, the Russian forces tried to advance to the fortifications of the Ukrainian defense six times without success.

In the Kursk region, Ukrainian Defense Forces units rebuffed 19 attacks by Russian troops over the past day. In addition, the Russians launched 13 air strikes using 21 guided bombs, and carried out 316 artillery attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions and settlements, including one using multiple rocket launchers.

On the border with Belarus, there were no signs of Russian offensive groups forming.

  • Over the past day on the Russia-Ukraine front, Ukraine’s Defense Forces destroyed 4 Russian tanks, several other pieces of military equipment, and eliminated 1,310 Russian troops.
