Russia tests Ukraine's air defense by daytime MIG flights before launching Shahed UAVs
On the night of June 15 to 16, invading Russian forces attacked the southern regions with drones. Russia was testing the readiness of Ukrainian air defense with daytime fighter flights
This is reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.
Thus, at night, the Air Force's air defense managed to destroy two Iranian Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs in the southern direction - in the Mykolaiv region.
In addition, over the past day, Ukrainian defenders destroyed enemy attack UAVs of the Lancet, Orlan-10, Orlan-30, and Zala types.
At night, Ukrainian soldiers reported: “Shaheds are currently being observed in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions! Air defense is working!”
In the Mykolaiv region, the air raid alert was announced at 11:23 p.m. In the Odesa region, an alert sounded at 12:04 a.m. At 01:10 a.m., the air alert was canceled in the Mykolaiv region and at 01:49 a.m. in the Odesa region.
In the morning, Operational Command South's press center head Natalia Humeniuk said that the daytime flights of Russian fighter jets were a test of Ukrainian air defense.
“Analyzing yesterday's developments with the air alerts that covered virtually the entire Ukraine, we can say that as a rule, MiGs are usually a measurement of air defense readiness. They were probably trying to understand where and how this level of readiness is taking place, and then after launching the first wave (of drones - ed.) they realized that it was not worth it. Let's hope they understand, although it's very difficult for them to understand,” the speaker believes.
Humeniuk also added that such actions by the enemy were intended to keep the Ukrainian military nervous and tense: “In fact, they have taken a pause, which means that they will continue to prepare for attacks.”
