This is reported by the Russian Defense Ministry.

“Today, at 9 am (Vladivostok time), the entire Pacific Fleet was put on alert and began to put itself on the highest level of combat readiness. Also, a part of the Air and Space Forces, military units and support units are involved in the event,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The purpose of the inspection is to improve the ability of Russian troops to repel “aggression of a possible enemy from ocean and sea directions.”

“In practice, it is necessary to work out ways to prevent the deployment of enemy forces in the operationally important area of the Pacific Ocean - the southern part of the Sea of Okhotsk and to prevent them from landing on the southern Kuril Islands,” Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu noted.

It is worth noting that Japan doesn't recognize the Kuriles as Russian territory.

Shoigu did not specify how long the inspection would last.

The head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, responded to the Russian Defense Ministry's announcement.

“Raise the scrap metal on alert or not, the whole world has already seen the destruction of the invincible Russian army's foundation. And it was with such destruction that irreversible processes in empires began,” he wrote.

“And why wasn't the cruiser Moskva raised?” Yermak added.
