Russia shells Lviv region, likely from Belarus: air defense works, explosions in Yavoriv district

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy wrote about the explosions in the city.

"Several explosions were heard in Lviv. Stay in shelters," the mayor said.

Lviv city council deputy Igor Zinkevych added that air defense shot down Russian missiles.

"Explosions can be heard in the Lviv region, remain calm and stay in shelters. Ukrainian air defense is working in the region," he wrote.

Later, Novoyavorivsk mayor, Volodymyr Matseliukh, said that a missile attack had been launched on the territory of his community: "Explosions are heard in our community again. I can't say exactly where they were, but they are heard."

Andriy Sadovy later clarified that none of the missiles hit the territory of Lviv.

"There is no confirmed information about the missiles hitting the city. Let's thank those who protect our sky for this! In the morning we will give more accurate information," he said.

The Belarusian opposition Telegram channel 'Belarusian Gayun' suggested that the missiles were launched from the territory of Belarus with planes that took off from the airport in Baranovichi.

"00:27 Baranovichi. Rise of two fighters. Confirmation came with a delay, so there was such a pause," said the statement.

Lviv Regional Military Head Maksym Kozytsky confirmed that the air defense was working, but there were also hits on the Yavoriv district near the Polish border.

"Thank you for your work! The military infrastructure in the Yavoriv district, almost on the border with Poland, has been shelled again. More information in the morning," he wrote.
