Russia shells Luhansk region 31 times a day: 60 houses destroyed, man killed

Luhansk Regional Military Administration Head Sergiy Gaidai reported the Russian attacks in his Telegram channel.

"Russians stormed Girske and Popasna communities, destroying almost 60 houses and damaging the bridge in Rubizhne. Two people were killed in shelling. Man from Lysychansk received incompatible with life injuries on May 11. Recently an 11-years-old boy from Zolote who was in critical condition died in Dnipro hospital. Russians opened fire toward residential areas in the Luhansk region 31 times on May 12," he said.

Russians damaged seven high-rise buildings in Severodonetsk and one Lysychansk. Popasna and Girske communities suffered the most, because Russians conducted assault actions towards Orikhove and near Komyshuvaha. Russians didn't advance, but had destroyed 15 houses in Vrubivtsi, 12 in Zolote, 11 in Komyshuvaha, 6 in Toshkivtsi, 4 in Troitske and 9 in other villages in the Popasna community. On May 12, Emergency Service extinguished a fire in a warehouse with coal in Lysychansk.

Russians focused their efforts on establishing full control over Rubizhne. They destroyed the bridge which was first to be repaired in the Luhansk region after the liberation from Russian forces in 2014. There is no transport connection between Severodonetsk and Lysychansk.

"The bridge over Borova river Hog suffered for the second time in 8 years by Russian forces. Firstly in July 2014 and now. Last time, it was repaired in March 2015. In summer 2014, when Rubizhne, Severodonetsk and Lysychansk were liberated, everyone used a temporary pontoon crossing made by the Ukrainian military while the reconstructed bridge wasn't opened," said Sergiy Gaidai.

On May 12, Ukraine's Armed Forces repulsed 8 Russian attacks and destroyed 13 Russian tanks, 8 artillery systems, 27 armored vehicles, 2 special units of engineering equipment and 5 vehicles. Ukrainian air defense shot down a Russian helicopter Ka-52 and four Orlan-10 UAVs.
