Russia seeks to recruit 400,000 more contract soldiers after battlefield failures
Russia is seeking to recruit another 400,000 contract soldiers after its offensive in Ukraine failed
Bloomberg reported that the recruitment of hundreds of thousands of contract soldiers will allow the Kremlin not to resort to a new wave of mobilization of reservists. In this way, the Kremlin hopes to avoid public discontent, as such a reaction was observed as a result of the previous mobilization of reservists.
According to the publication's sources, the Kremlin is worried about Russian President Vladimir Putin's election campaign, so it does not want to risk public sentiment.
In addition, the Kremlin is currently focusing on deterring a new Ukrainian offensive, which is expected to begin in the near future.
