
Russia reports drone attack with Shahed factory, chemical plant possibly targeted
On the night of Monday, May 26, Russia has reported a series of drone attacks. Among the possible targets are the Shahed drone factory in Yelabuga, Republic of Tatarstan, and a chemical plant in the Ivanovo region
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported this.
In total, they report shooting down 96 Ukrainian drones overnight. Specifically, 31 drones were reportedly shot down over Bryansk region, 16 over Belgorod, 11 over Kursk, 9 over Tula region, 8 over Oryol, 6 over Moscow region, 5 over Kaluga, 4 over Ivanovo region, 2 drones each over Ryazan and Vladimir regions, and one each over Tatarstan and Yaroslavl region.
Russian media report that around 10:40 p.m., explosions were heard in the city of Yelabuga. According to Astra, the city hosts a Russian military drone factory built in 2023.
Additionally, a chemical plant in the city of Kineshma, Ivanovo region, may also have been targeted by drone attacks.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation, notes that this facility produces components for Russian equipment and weapons, including missiles.
- At the end of April, in Russia’s Tatarstan region, a drone attack targeted a drone manufacturing plant in the city of Yelabuga, where more than 6,000 Shahed and Geran drones were produced in 2024. Subsequently, Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the strike on the Russian facility.
