Orsk refinery suspends operations due to dam break - Russian media

Orsknefteorgsintez has decided to suspend the operation of its refinery in Orsk due to the rise in water that occurred after the city dam broke last Friday, the company's press service reports.

"Due to the abnormal flooding, in order to avoid environmental risks and to comply with safety regulations, primarily related to occupational safety, the Orsk oil refinery has been temporarily suspended," a company spokesperson says.

Orsknefteorgsintez is ForteInvest's largest asset, with an annual capacity of 6 million tons of petroleum products.

Dam break in Orsk

On the evening of April 5, a dam burst in two places in the Russian city of Orsk, Orenburg region. The authorities urged people to evacuate immediately, and thousands of homes were threatened.

As of the morning of April 6, the water level in Orsk was at 930 cm. Local authorities reported that the entire residential sector of the Old Town would soon be flooded.
