Russia loses over 240,000 soldiers in Ukraine – General Staff

Russia has lost 640 soldiers, 27 drones, and 15 armored vehicles in one day. On August 3, the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian troops have had 44 combat clashes at the front

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to August 3, 2023, amounted to:

  • personnel - about 248,490 (+640 per day) 
  • tanks - 4,228 (+4)
  • armored fighting vehicles - 8,249 (+15)
  • artillery systems - 4,911 (+19)
  • MLRS - 704
  • air defense systems - 466 (+1)
  • aircraft - 315
  • helicopters - 311
  • vehicles and tank trucks - 7,392 (+20)
  • ships/boats - 18
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 4,104 (+27)
  • special equipment - 724 (+3)
  • cruise missiles - 1,347

Russian forces threaten reprisals against ZNPP personnel, try to force them to obtain Russian passports

"In Enerhodar, temporarily occupied by Russian troops, the invaders are forcing the station's staff to obtain Russian passports, threatening them with reprisals in order to continue work at the Zaporizhzhia NPP," the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported.

Thus, in the city, the Russian occupying forces conduct regular searches of local residents both on the streets and in their homes. They check passports and phones. If a citizen's passport turns out to be Ukrainian, the document is destroyed and they are forced to apply for a Russian passport. They also force people to change other documents, such as driver's licenses, papers for movable and immovable property.

Russia launches 57 air strikes and 29 MLRS attacks in Ukraine in a day

On August 3, Russia launched a strike with Iranian-made Shahed strike UAVs in Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense destroyed all 15 drones.

Russian troops also launched 1 missile, 57 air strikes and 29 MLRS attacks at Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas. There are casualties among the civilian population.

The threat of further missile and air strikes throughout Ukraine remains very high.

Around 40 combat clashes take place at the frontline: the situation in the directions

About 40 combat clashes took place over the last day.

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian forces carried out air strikes near 3 settlements. They also launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 40 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops carried out air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled 4 settlements across the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces shelled 5 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions with artillery.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army in the area south and southeast of Ivanivske. Russian troops carried out air strikes near 3 settlements and shelled over 15 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops launched an airstrike near Avdiivka, Donetsk region. Thay launched an unsuccessful offensive north and southeast of Avdiivka and southeast of Pervomaiske, and shelled 5 settlements with artillery. 

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces hold back the Russian offensive near the town of Marinka. Russian troops launched air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled 6 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops launched air strikes near Rivnopil and Makarivka, Donetsk region, and shelled 3 settlements. They also made unsuccessful attempts to regain their lost position west of Staromayorske and east of Urozhaine. 

In Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian forces’ priority is preventing the advance of Ukrainian troops.

Russian forces carried out air strikes near 3 settlements in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions and shelled over 40 settlements across Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Defense Forces conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their positions, inflicting artillery fire, and conducting counter-battery operations.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy a Russian control center, 12 artillery pieces at firing positions and 2 air defense systems

Over the past day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched 9 strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment and 2 on anti-aircraft missile systems.

Ukrainian missile and artillery units struck 12 artillery pieces at firing positions, 1 radar station, 1 control center, 3 concentrations of personnel, 2 air defense systems and 3 ammunition depots.

  • Earlier, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov responded to reports of a slow pace of the Ukrainian counteroffensive and said that there are no deadlines or schedules.
