The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to January 3, 2024, amounted to:

  • personnel – about 361,500 (+680)
  • tanks ‒ 5,990
  • armored fighting vehicles ‒ 11,107 (+7)
  • artillery systems – 8,546 (+15)
  • MLRS – 945
  • air defense systems ‒ 629 (+3) 
  • aircraft – 329
  • helicopters – 324
  • UAV operational-tactical level – 6,748 (+36)
  • cruise missiles ‒ 1,783 (+73)
  • warships/boats ‒ 23
  • submarines – 1
  • vehicles and tank trucks – 11,391 (+26) 
  • special equipment ‒ 1,298 (+14)

Russian attacks on Ukraine

Over the past day, Russian troops launched 89 missile and 72 air strikes against Ukraine, including with Shahed-136/131 drones. They also fired 48 MLRS attacks at Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.

As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, over 130 people were killed and over 130 were wounded, including children.  

"More than 100 private residential and apartment buildings, other civilian and industrial infrastructure in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions were destroyed and damaged," the General Staff noted. 

There were 57 combat clashes over the past day.

Seven settlements across Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions suffered from air strikes.

About 120 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions came under Russian artillery fire.

Frontline update

Near the state Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 Russian attacks near Synkivka, and east of Petropavlivka, Kharkiv region. 

In the Lyman, Marinka, and Shakhtarsk directions, Russian troops did not conduct assault operations.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukraine's troops repelled 6 Russia's attacks near 3 settlements in the Donetsk region. 

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukraine continues to hold back the Russian invading forces, who keep trying to surround Avdiivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled 8 attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Avdiivka and 16 more attacks near Pervomayske and Nevelske, Donetsk region, over the past day. The tactical situation has improved southeast of Novobakhmutivka.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled an attack near Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region. In the area of Verbove, Ukrainian troops advanced, forcing Russia to abandon some positions.

In the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces expand the bridgehead. Despite significant losses, Russian troops do not give up trying to drive Ukrainian units from their positions. Over the past day, Russia carried out 9 unsuccessful assault operations.

Ukrainian strikes on Russian positions

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation struck 12 concentrations of Russian troops.

Ukrainian missile troops hit 2 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment, 3 anti-aircraft missile systems, 2 control centers, an artillery system, a radar system and a fuel and lubricant depot.
