Russia loses 640 soldiers, 7 tanks and 8 air defense systems in Ukraine overnight - General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to July 22, 2023, amounted to:

• personnel - about 241,330 (+640) soldiers
• tanks - 4,140 (+7)
• armored combat vehicles - 8096 (+16)
• artillery systems - 4,629 (+19)
• MLRS - 693 (+0) 
• air defense systems - 448 (+8)
• aircraft - 315 (+0)
• helicopters - 310 (+0)
• UAVs of operational and tactical level - 3944 (+11)
• cruise missiles - 1,298 (+0)
• ships/boats - 18 (+0)
• vehicles and tank trucks - 7,159 (+14)
• special equipment - 691 (+5)

The enemy carried out over 20 air strikes and 50 attacks from multiple rocket launchers over the last day

Over the past day, the Russian forces carried out 16 missile and over 20 air strikes and fired 50 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements of Ukraine.

Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among children and adult civilians. Grain storage facilities in the south of Ukraine, industrial facilities, more than 70 civilian residential buildings and other infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

According to the General Staff, in the units of the Russian motorized rifle regiment, which is participating in hostilities in the area of Pershotravneve, Luhansk region, the Russian military have a low level of morale and poor psychological state.

The main factors that negatively affect the morale of the occupying Russian forces are large losses in personnel during the fighting and the untimely supply of ammunition. This is compounded by the uncertainty of the timing of replenishment of personnel in units that have suffered combat losses.

The General Staff also noted that the number of people willing to leave their units and return to the Russian Federation from the combat zone is increasing.

Russian forces are attacking in the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka directions - over 40 combat engagements took place over the past day.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation remains unchanged. No signs of the formation of enemy offensive groups were detected.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire border line with mortars and artillery: over 15 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

• In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian troops are holding steady, despite Russia’s attacks. 5 settlements in the Kharkiv region came under Russian artillery and mortar fire.
• In the Lyman direction, the occupying Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensives in 3 settlements in the Luhansk region and Serebryansky forest and Dibrova in the Donetsk region. They carried out air strikes in the areas of Serebryansky forest, Spirne and Dibrova in Donetsk region. Nevske and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and 4 settlements in Donetsk region came under artillery fire.
• In the Bakhmut direction, under heavy fire from enemy artillery, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled enemy attacks near Hryhorivka, and more than 15 settlements suffered from Russian artillery shelling in the Donetsk region.
• In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled attacks by Russian troops near Pervomaiske in Donetsk region. The enemy launched air strikes near Avdiivka. At the same time, they fired artillery at more than 15 settlements in the Donetsk region.
• In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Marinka. The enemy fired at over 15 settlements in the Donetsk region.
• In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensives in the areas of Novomykhailivka and Blahodatne in the Donetsk region. They also fired at more than 10 settlements.
• In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the enemy is focusing on preventing further advance of Ukrainian troops. Russian forces conducted an air strike in the Kozatske area of Kherson region. More than 30 towns and villages came under artillery fire in Zaporizhzhia region; 5 settlements were attacked in Kherson region, including the city of Kherson. Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region also came under Russian fire.
• At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their positions.

Ukraine’s Defense Forces targeted 2 areas where occupying Russian forces were concentrated, as well as 5 artillery systems

Over the past day, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out 14 strikes on the areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment and 3 strikes on enemy anti-aircraft missile systems. Ukrainian defenders also destroyed 11 reconnaissance UAVs of operational and tactical level. 

Over the past day, missile and artillery units struck 2 areas of concentration of enemy manpower, weapons and military equipment, 5 artillery systems at firing positions and an enemy electronic warfare station.

• On July 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the counteroffensive was progressing slowly because it began later than planned.
