Russia loses 490 soldiers, 8 AFVs and 4 cruise missiles in one day of war in Ukraine - General Staff

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian army has lost 261,310 soldiers. The Ukrainian Armed Forces carry out offensive operations in the Melitopol direction and are holding back the Russian offensive near Marinka

The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to August 28, 2023, amounted to:

personnel - about 261,310 (+490 per day) 

tanks - 4,400 (+4)

armored fighting vehicles - 8,562 (+8)

artillery systems - 5,425 (+22)

MLRS - 730 (+2)

air defense systems - 499 (+1)  

aircraft - 315

helicopters - 316

vehicles and tank trucks - 7,866 (+12)

ships/boats - 18

UAV operational-tactical level - 4,383 (+5)

special equipment - 809 (+1)

cruise missiles - 1,415 (+4)

Russian forces launched an unsuccessful offensive near Klishchiivka and Novoyehorivka

In the past day, the frontline witnessed 34 combat clashes. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces provided the information during a morning briefing on August 28.

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

In the Northeast, Russian forces carried out air strikes near 2 settlements. They also launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 30 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops carried out air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled 6 more settlements across the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops were attacking without success near the settlement of Novoyehorivka, Luhansk region, and shelled over 10 more settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Bakhmut direction, Russian troops were attacking without success near Klishchiivka, Donetsk region. They also shelled over 15 more settlements with artillery.

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops shelled over 10 settlements with artillery. 

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces held back the Russian offensive near Marinka. Russian troops launched an air strike on a settlement and shelled 6 others with artillery.

In the Shakhtarsk area, Russian troops launched air strikes on 2 settlements in the Donetsk region and shelled 5 more settlements.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian troops carried out air strikes near 3 settlements. Over 25 localities came under Russian artillery fire.

In the Kherson direction, Russian forces carried out air strikes in the area of 3 settlements. Over 15 settlements across the region came under Russian artillery fire.

The Ukrainian army conducts offensives in the Melitopol direction, consolidating their positions and conducting counter-battery operations.

Russia launches 11 missile strikes and 48 air strikes against Ukraine in one day

On August 27, Russian troops launched another missile attack on Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense destroyed 4 cruise missiles.

In total, Russian forces launched 11 missiles, 48 air strikes, and 54 MLRS attacks at Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas over the day. Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure have been destroyed.

The threat of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high.

Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed a Russian ammunition depot, 2 electronic warfare stations, and 4 artillery pieces at firing positions

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation carried out 10 strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel and 1 strike on anti-aircraft missile systems.

Ukrainian missile and artillery units destroyed 1 Russian ammunition depot, 2 electronic warfare stations, and 4 artillery pieces at firing positions.

  • During the day, Ukrainian defenders eliminated 78 Russian soldiers and captured 17 more. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 32 units of Russian military equipment.
