Russia loses 460 soldiers, 19 artillery systems, and 12 tanks in one day – General Staff

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army has lost 257,930 soldiers. During the day, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Synkivka, Kharkiv region, and Kurdyumivka, Donetsk region

The total combat losses of the enemy from 24.02.22 to 21.08.23 were approximately:

  • personnel – about 257,930 (+460) 
  • tanks ‒ 4358 (+12)
  • armored personnel vehicles ‒ 8449 (+14)
  • artillery systems – 5264 (+19)
  • MLRS – 719 (+2)
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems ‒ 489 (+0)
  • aircraft – 315 (+0)
  • helicopters – 316 (+0)
  • UAVs operational-tactical level – 4309 (+5)
  • cruise missiles ‒ 1406 (+0)
  • warships/boats ‒ 18 (+0)
  • vehicles and fuel tanks – 7692 (+12)
  • special equipment ‒ 794 (+4)

More than 25 combat clashes took place at the front in one day, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting offensives in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions

During the past day, more than 25 combat clashes occurred at the frontlines. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports this on August 21.

Situation in different regions of Ukraine 

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian troops launched air strikes on two settlements in the Sumy region. They also launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 30 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops shelled 5 settlements across the Kharkiv region. One area suffered from air strikes and Russian offensive actions. Ukrainian forces hold the defense, while Russians try to advance near Synkivka. 

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops shelled over 15 settlements across the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Four areas were subjected to air strikes.  

In the Bakhmut direction, Russians shelled over 20 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled Russian attacks in the area of Kurdyumivka. Three areas were subjected to air strikes. 

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops shelled 6 settlements with artillery.

In the Marinka direction, Russian troops shelled 6 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery and launched air strikes near 2 areas. Ukrainian forces hold the defense near Marinka.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops shelled 6 settlements and launched air strikes near 2 settlements.  

In Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian troops shelled over 50 settlements across Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. Five areas were subjected to air strikes. 

Meanwhile, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue their offensive operation in Melitopol and Berdyansk directions. They are holding their positions and countering enemy attacks.

 

Russians launched 29 air strikes and 43 MLRS attacks against Ukraine

Over the last day, the enemy conducted 29 air attacks and launched 43 MLRS attacks on Ukraine.

Because of these attacks, civilians were killed or injured. Residential buildings, a school, and other important structures were also damaged.

There's a high chance that missile and air attacks could happen across Ukraine.

Armed forces of Ukraine hit one Russian command post and 3 artillery systems in firing positions

In the past 24 hours, the Air Force of the Defense Forces attacked areas where the enemy was gathered a total of 9 times.

Missile and artillery units also hit 1 command post and 3 artillery pieces in firing positions.

 
  • During the day, Russian terrorists fired 626 shells and conducted 15 airstrikes on Ukrainian positions in the Tavria direction.
