Russia loses 18 tanks, 15 artillery systems and almost 1,000 soldiers in one day of war in Ukraine — General Staff

Ukrainian defenders repelled over 60 attacks at the front during one day of war, as the Russian army lost 980 soldiers

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to October 22, 2023, amounted to:

  • personnel - about 293,830 (+980 per day) 
  • tanks - 5,081 (+18)
  • armored fighting vehicles - 9,631 (+19)
  • artillery systems - 7,032 (+15) 
  • MLRS - 825 (+3) 
  • air defense systems - 549 (+1)
  • aircraft - 320
  • helicopters - 324
  • vehicles and tank trucks - 9,404 (+13)
  • ships/boats - 20
  • submarines - 1
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 5,339 (+9)
  • special equipment - 991 (+1)
  • cruise missiles - 1,535

Ukrainian Defense Forces repel over 60 Russian attacks in key frontline areas over a day

In total, over 80 combat clashes took place on the frontline over the past day, according to the General Staff.

In the area of the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

In the northeastern border area, Russian forces maintain a grouping of troops covering the state border, conducting active sabotage activities in the border areas to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increasing the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled over 15 attacks near Synkivka and Ivanivka, Kharkiv region, and near Nadiya, Luhansk region.

In Lyman direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled over 10 attacks near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region, Serebryanka forestry and Spirne, Donetsk region.

In Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled attacks near Vasyukivka and Andriivka, Donetsk region. At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut, Donetsk region, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the Russian army, and consolidating their positions.

In Avdiivka direction, Russian troops have resumed offensive actions and continue to try to surround Avdiivka. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the defense, inflicting numerous losses on Russian forces. Russia’s offensive actions near Keramik, Avdiivka, Stepove, Tonenke and Pervomayske, Donetsk region, were unsuccessful. Ukrainian soldiers repelled over 15 attacks there.

In Marinka direction, Russian troops carried out 15 unsuccessful attacks near Marinka and 2 other settlements, Donetsk region. Ukrainian soldiers repelled over 20 attacks.

In Shakhtarsk and Zaporizhzhia directions, Ukrainian defenders repelled all attacks near 4 settlements in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

In Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defence Forces conduct counter-battery operations, destroy Russian depots and successfully strike at the enemy's rear.

The Ukrainian Defence Forces are conducting an offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupying forces, consolidating their positions and exhausting Russian troops.

Russia attacks Ukraine with aircraft, missiles and UAVs at night

In total, Russia launched 6 missile and 53 air strikes, and 54 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Private homes and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

Also last night, the Russian occupiers launched another missile and air strike on Ukraine, using an Kh-59 guided missile, S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles and 3 Shahed-136/131 attack drones. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed one Kh-59 guided missile and 3 Shaheds.

Russian troops launched air strikes on 16 settlements across Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

About 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions came under Russian artillery fire.

Ukrainian Armed Forces strike 33 Russian targets

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation carried out 12 strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment.

Ukrainian missile troops hit 7 Russian artillery pieces, a radar station, an ammunition depot, an anti-aircraft missile system and 2 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment.

  • On the evening of Saturday, October 21, Russian terrorists attacked the Kharkiv region. A missile hit Nova Poshta terminal (a post office), killing 6 people and injuring 16.
