Russia-linked accounts spread false claims of Ukrainian arrests in Iran
Pro-Russian sources spread fake news on social media about the alleged arrest of Ukrainian agents in Iran amid escalating tensions in the Middle East
The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) reports that several social media accounts are spreading manipulative information about the alleged arrest of three Ukrainian agents in Isfahan, Iran.
Information sources often cite the Tasnim news agency. However, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), no such publications have appeared in the mentioned media, making the information false.
The Center notes that the rapid appearance of similar messages within a short period may indicate inauthentic account behavior. Moreover, this "news" is being amplified by Russian media and pro-Russian bloggers.
“The purpose of these messages may be to discredit Ukraine amid escalating security tensions in the Middle East, particularly among audiences critical of the actions of the U.S. and Iran,” the CCD emphasizes.
