Russia launches 598 Shahed drones, 31 missiles in massive attack on Ukraine
On the night of August 28, the Russian army launched 629 aerial weapons against Ukraine, including Shahed drones, Kinzhal, Iskander, and Kh-101 missiles. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted or suppressed 589 of these targets

The Ukrainian Air Force reported the information.
“On the night of August 28 (starting from 7:30 p.m. on August 27), the Russian army launched a massive strike on Ukraine using attack drones and air- and ground-launched missiles — a total of 629 aerial weapons,” the report states.
The attack included:
- 598 Shahed attack drones and various types of decoy drones from Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Oryol, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and Hvardiiske (temporarily occupied Crimea);
- 2 aeroballistic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles from Lipetsk and Voronezh regions;
- 9 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Bryansk and Voronezh regions;
- 20 Kh-101 cruise missiles from the airspace of Saratov region.
As of 09:00 a.m., Ukrainian air defense had shot down or suppressed 589 targets: 563 Shahed and decoy drones of various types; 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile; 7 Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles; and 18 Kh-101 cruise missiles.
“The airstrike was repelled by aviation, surface-to-air missile troops, electronic warfare units, drone units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces,” the Ukrainian Air Force added.
- On Wednesday evening, August 27, the Russian army launched attack drones against Ukraine. The strike in Kyiv left casualties: 14 people have been killed, including 3 children.
