Russia is not ready for good-faith diplomacy - White House
The US administration believes that Russia is not really ready for negotiations that would help to achieve peace in Ukraine on the basis of international law and the UN Charter
This was stated by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre at a press briefing.
"it is hard to take seriously the idea that Russia is prepared for good-faith diplomacy," she said.
Jean-Pierre stressed that now the Russian side only intensifies aggression against Ukraine.
Thus, Russia does not plan to stop the annexation of Ukrainian territories and change the current situation. According to the representative of the US presidential administration, this is not the basis for real diplomacy.
The White House spokesperson reiterated that Washington stands for a just peace. This was previously confirmed by US President Joe Biden during a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
"When we talk about just peace, that must include UN principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity," Jean-Pierre said.
She also stressed that the task of the United States is to continue supporting Ukraine on the battlefield. This is necessary "so that they are in the best position for negotiations" when the time comes.
- On January 3, the US State Department said that the new Congress will maintain bipartisan support for Ukraine.
