Russia has deployed only nuclear weapons carriers to Belarus so far - Lieutenant General Nayev
The Russian Federation has deployed only carriers for nuclear weapons to Belarus, but this does not mean that it will not deliver nukes in the future. Ukrainian Armed Forces monitor the situation
Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"The carriers of such means were transferred, and as for nuclear weapons, they announced that this would happen. As of now, there has been no transfer, but this does not mean that it cannot happen in the near future," Nayev said.
He emphasised that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are monitoring the situation with nuclear weapons in Belarus.
"We note certain actions of the Russian Armed Forces related to the possible deployment of nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, we are fully aware of the situation, we are taking appropriate adequate measures to reduce risks within the limits of the forces we have," the lieutenant general said.
- On May 25, Viktor Khrenin and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu signed a document on the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
- Shortly afterward, self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced the start of the relocation of nuclear weapons in the country.
- Later, Khrenin said that the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in the country would help "cool down the bellicose rhetoric" of the West and Ukraine.
