"Ukraine recognizes Putin's peaceful intentions": Russia launches new fake

Russian propaganda is promoting the manipulation that Ukraine has recognized the peace plans of Russian leader Vladimir Putin

This is reported by the Center for Strategic Communications.

"Ukraine has recognized that the Russian president wanted to reach a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict," Russian media reported, citing former Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Chaly.

In fact, during the discussion in Geneva, Chaly recalled the period of negotiations with Russia at the beginning of the full-scale war.

"I was in the group of Ukrainian negotiators. We discussed with the Russian delegation for almost 2 months, in March and April (2022 - ed.), a possible agreement on a peaceful settlement between Ukraine and Russia, and we signed the "Istanbul communique". We were very close to ending our war with some kind of peaceful settlement, and for some reason it was postponed. In my opinion, a week after the start of his aggression on February 24, Putin quickly realized that he had made a mistake and tried to do everything possible to conclude an agreement with Ukraine," Chaly was quoted by StopFake fact-checkers.

At the same time, Chaly emphasized that it was Putin who committed the crime of launching a full-scale war against Ukraine, and in 2014 annexed Crimea and launched a proxy war in Donbas.

Russian propaganda took Chaly's remarks about Russia's "peaceful intentions" out of context. During the discussion, the former Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine said that today only Ukraine in NATO will be a guarantor of security for the country.
