Russian propaganda spreads fake claims that Ukrainian soldiers allegedly booby-trap the bodies of their own troops and their personal belongings

The Center for Countering Disinformation reported this on its Telegram channel.

“Russian propaganda continues to spread false claims that the Armed Forces of Ukraine supposedly ‘mine the bodies of their dead’ and their personal items. In particular, they circulate a story from an occupier who claims that Russian troops ‘do not inspect the bodies of dead Ukrainian soldiers because they are 99.9% mined,’” the statement said.

The Center noted that such claims are part of an information operation against Ukraine aimed at discrediting the army and demoralizing society.

There are no photos, videos, or any documentary evidence to support these allegations — only statements from an anonymous Russian serviceman.

“Russia regularly spreads such fabrications. These fakes are meant to create a negative image of the Ukrainian army as one that ‘doesn’t respect even its own,’ while also serving to justify the war crimes of Russian forces,” the Center emphasized.

The agency stressed that Ukraine strictly adheres to international humanitarian law and does not use prohibited methods of warfare. In contrast, Russian troops consistently mine civilian sites — a fact confirmed by both Ukrainian and international organizations.

  • On October 8, the Center reported that Russian propagandists were also spreading false information claiming that Ukrainian soldiers near Kupiansk refused to fight due to a lack of food and water.
