On Friday, December 1, the International Maritime Organization Assembly elected the new Council for 2024-2025, and Russia was not included in it
President Zelenskyy shared this information on the X social network.
"The International Maritime Organization Assembly has elected a new Council composition for 2024-2025. Excluding Russia," states the message.
The president deemed it a just decision, asserting, "Russia has done the most harm to free navigation in recent decades."
"I appreciate the IMO members for taking this responsible action," the president added.
For context, the International Maritime Organization is a specialized UN agency working towards eliminating discriminatory practices in global shipping, establishing safety standards at sea, and preventing environmental pollution, particularly from ships.
