Russia establishes barrier at Sevastopol Bay entrance, satellite images confirm

Russian forces have erected special partitions at the entrance to Sevastopol Bay, which houses the primary base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in temporarily annexed Crimea

This was reported by military analyst Brady Africk.

Most likely, Russian forces wanted to protect their ships from Ukrainian attacks, which have recently become more frequent.

However, a new satellite photo of the partitions shows that the defense barrier is no longer intact.

"Here's a recent look at the barriers Russia has placed at the entrance to Sevastopol harbor in Crimea to counter Ukraine's naval drones," the statement said.

Background

On September 20, Ukrainian intelligence confirmed a successful strike on the command post of the Russian Black Sea Fleet near the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. Planet Labs published satellite images showing the consequences of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strike on the command post.

An agent of the ATES guerilla movement conducted reconnaissance of one of the Russian warships' berths between the small bays of Dokova and Holland and reported that some of the Russian warships "have already been withdrawn, and some are preparing to do so."

After conducting reconnaissance around the dock, the movement reports that a checkpoint has been set up at the entrance, and civilians are not allowed to enter the facility, which has been closed for military use since the beginning of the war. Only warships are docked there.

Natalia Humeniuk, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, said that Russian ships were facing increasing ‘discomfort’ in the Sevastopol bays.
