Russia destroys sailing school in Odesa during night attack

On the night of October 17, Russian drones attacked Odesa and destroyed the building of a sailing school and the boats on which children were training.

This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports.

"The school had 150 children aged 6 to 18. Recently, there have been no classes with access to the sea, we have been working on field trips to other locations in Ukraine and abroad. Here, in Odesa, was the main methodological base of the school, where instructors and sailing experts gathered and developed plans for the future. Now the school has been destroyed," said Vyacheslav Kravchenko, director of the children's and youth sailing school No. 13.

Not only the building, but also the boats, yachts and motorboats were damaged. Experts will determine whether the building can be restored. Each boat costs from 3,000 to 15,000 euros, and the money was allocated by the students' parents, sponsors, and the Odesa City Council.

The director also said that the children's and youth sailing school No. 13 is famous not only in Ukraine but also around the world.

"A few months ago, our student Alina Shapovalova became the world sailing champion. This is a great achievement, and there have been no such awards for many years. Our children have also won the Ukrainian championship and won international tournaments. There was no point in such a blow. Russia is a country that destroys the achievements of children. This is just horrible, there are no other words. The terrorist country must be punished for this," Kravchenko stressed.
