Russia deploys Grads at the ZNPP to appease war supporters amid reports of possible withdrawal
Russian authorities have ordered to place Grad systems at ZNPP to counter the criticism of radical war supporters amid reports of a possible withdrawal of Russian troops from the plant
This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
On December 8, Energoatom, Ukrainian state energy company, announced that Russian troops had transferred several Grad systems to ZNPP’s reactor No. 6 and dry storage fuel area. Energoatom stated that the Russian troops are most likely planning to use the Grad systems to strike Nikopol and Marhanets communities, Dnipropetrovsk region.
ISW experts remind that previously published satellite images confirm that Russian forces store military equipment, in particular, ammunition, armored personnel carriers, anti-aircraft guns and other weapons on the ZNPP’s territory.
“New equipment deployments to the ZNPP may be an attempt to placate ongoing speculation among Russian nationalist milbloggers of a possible Russian withdrawal from the ZNPP, which the Kremlin has denied twice within the past 10 days,” ISW experts believe.
