Russia claims to down Ukrainian UAVs near Moscow and 2 injured
On Monday, August 21, the Russian Ministry of Defense has claimed an alleged attack by Ukrainian drones again. According to them, the electronic warfare and air defense forces neutralized 2 drones, esulting in 2 people being injured
The Russian Defense Ministry reported the information.
The alleged drone launch occurred around 06:50 am Moscow time. The drone was allegedly detected over the territory of the Moscow region and destroyed by means of electronic warfare.
"Having lost control, the UAV crashed near the village of Pokrovskoye, Ruzsky district. There were no casualties," the Russian Defense Ministry added.
In addition, at 08:16 am, they reported another attack by an unmanned aircraft. It was allegedly shot down by Russian air defense over the territory of the Istrinsky district of the Moscow region.
Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the downing of the drone on the approach to Moscow. According to him, there was no damage or injuries as a result of the UAV attack.
Meanwhile, Moscow Region Governor Alexei Vorobyov reported that two people were injured when the drone's wreckage fell on a garden house in the Istrinsky urban district. According to him, a man was hospitalized, while a woman refused to be hospitalized.In addition, glass was shattered in three houses.
Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan claimed on her Telegram channel that the drone that was allegedly shot down in the Istrinsky district of Moscow region fell on the neighboring street from her house.
Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports closed
According to RIA Novosti, Vnukovo Airport has declared limitations on aircraft arrivals and departures "for reasons beyond its control." Several flights have been rerouted to alternate airports as a result.Later, the media added that an Aeroflot flight from the Russian city of Yekaterinburg landed in Kazan instead of Moscow Sheremetyevo. When the plane was about to begin its descent, the liner turned around. The pilot announced that all Moscow airports were closed.
Domodedovo Airport also announced work restrictions. They said that to ensure additional security measures, a temporary ban on arrivals and departures was introduced at 6:26 am.
At 8:30 am., both Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports were reportedly back in operation.
