Russia attacks Ukraine with missiles: 23 dead in Uman, 6 children among them; woman and 2-year-old killed in Dnipro

A Russian missile hit a high-rise building in Uman, Cherkasy region, during a massive attack: 23 people are killed, 6 children among them, and 18 were injured. In Dnipro, a 2-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman were killed, four people were injured

This was reported by local authorities.

On the night of April 27-28, residents of Kyiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipro, and Mykolaiv regions heard explosions.

Uman, Cherkasy region

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Telegram that as of 10:10 am on April 29, the number of children killed had risen to six: three boys (1.5 and 16  and 17 years old) and three girls (8, 11, and 14 years old). The rubble is still being cleared.

Earlier, Yulia Norovkova, a spokesperson for the Main Department of Ukraine's State Emergency Service in the Cherkasy region, shared the latest information from Uman on Espreso TV.

“The rubble of the entrance has been dismantled - we have completed the dismantling of the rubble of the first floor and have moved on to dismantling the rubble of the basement. 23 people have been killed, including four children.

It is possible that there may be people in the neighboring entrance on the seventh floor. We will work as long as it takes to clear the rubble and find people there.

Psychologists of the State Emergency Service have been working with the victims since the morning. With relatives who were waiting for information about their loved ones. The psychologists provide qualified assistance, 67 people have received help from them. Three aid stations have been set up where people can come, drink tea or coffee, eat and keep warm. Local residents helped to clear the rubble.

The difficulty was that the structure had collapsed and it was necessary to dismantle a large number of rubble to understand how many people were under it and help them. The rescuers shared their impressions, and the most emotionally difficult part was getting the children out from under the rubble. The search operation has been going on for 14 hours,” Norovkova said.

At 7:00 pm, the body of a fourth child was pulled from under the rubble. The total number of people killed reached 24.

As of 6:30 pm, 22 people were reported killed, according to Ukraine’s National Police. 

At 6:00 pm, the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration reported that the death toll was 21. The search and rescue operation continued. 

Around 5:00 pm, the number of victims of the Russian strike increased again. Another body was pulled from under the rubble. The Interior Ministry of Ukraine reports 20 dead.

At 4:15 pm it was reported that the death toll had risen to 19. Another 18 people were injured, 9 of them are in hospital.

At 2:47 pm, the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, reported 17 civilians killed in Uman: three days of mourning were declared in the region.

As of 2:00 pm, the State Emergency Service reported 16 dead and 18 injured. Nine civilians remain hospitalized.

"17 people (including 3 children) were rescued and 1 body fragment was recovered," the service added.

At 1:55 pm, the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration informed that 15 people had already died as a result of the Russian missile attack, including 3 children. The rubble is being cleared.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, as of 12:38 pm, the bodies of 4 more victims were recovered from under the rubble. 

"An operational headquarters and tents have been deployed at the scene of the tragedy, where our citizens from neighboring houses and the house that suffered the most can wait until the local authorities provide them with temporary shelter. The local authorities have provided food for everyone. In addition, there is a hotline where relatives and friends of those citizens who lived in the affected house can call," said the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.

As of 10:41 am, it was informed on the telegram channel of the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration about two dead children.

"Rescuers continue to dismantle the ruins. Unfortunately, we already have ten dead. There are two 10-year-old children among them," the post reads.

As of 10:05 am, the death toll from the missile attack has risen to seven. This was reported on the telegram channel of the Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"Unfortunately, the death toll in Uman has increased. Rescuers have just taken out three more bodies from the rubble. The total number of victims of Russian aggression is 10 as of 10:05 am," Ihor Klymenko.

As of 9:30 am, the death toll from the rocket attack on Uman has risen to 7, child among them. 

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated this.

According to him, Russia struck with a Kh-101 cruise missile. 17 people were rescued from the rubble, nine are in hospital.

"There were 109 people registered to live in this building entrance. Out of 46 apartments, 27 have been completely destroyed. Rescuers are doing everything to dismantle the rubble as soon as possible to ensure no people are trapped there," said Klymenko.

As of 8:30 am, the death toll from the rocket attack on Uman has risen to four.

"Four dead. Three were taken out from under the rubble. Another person died in the hospital," the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

There are also 17 known injuried, they are receiving medical care. Three children were rescued.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing. The State Emergency Service, police and medics are working at the scene. An operational headquarters for the victims has been set up in Uman gymnasium No. 5. Education institutions are currently teaching remotely, and pre-schools have alternating groups.

According to President Zelenskyy, approximately 10 apartment buildings were damaged. An entire entrance was destroyed in one of them. People are still trapped under the rubble. A child is among the dead.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, two rockets damaged three high-rise buildings. As of 7:17 am, 3 people were reported dead and 8 injured.

At 5:55 am, Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, wrote that Russian terrorists hit a high-rise building in Uman with a cruise missile and a warehouse with another one.

Prior to that, Zoya Voyak, head of the communications sector of the Cherkasy regional police, posted a video from the scene.

"The video from Uman is already being shared on social media. A Russian missile hit a residential building. Information about the victims is being clarified," she said.

Local residents who were in the house commented on the moment the enemy missile hit: "The rocket hit our house. Children were sleeping here. We are all covered in blood. We have no windows, nothing."

Dnipro

Also in the morning, the Russian army launched a massive attack on the Dnipro region. The military from the East Air Command shot down 7 cruise missiles.

A private house was destroyed in Dnipro. A 2-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman were killed. Three people were injured.

"A 58-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman in moderate condition were taken to the hospital. A 31-year-old woman will be treated on an outpatient basis," the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration said in a statement. 

The building of a private enterprise was also destroyed in the city. A fire broke out there that has been extinguished. 

However, firefighters are still working on another facility that was damaged by the Russian attack. A construction base is on fire. The flames covered 400 square meters. So far, the fire has been localized. 

A 70-year-old woman was injured. Doctors provided her with medical aid.

At 5:53 am, Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov wrote that a young woman and a child were killed as a result of a Russian strike on Dnipro.

Earlier, Espreso.TV wrote that reports of several explosions in Poltava region appeared at 4:05 am. Reports of explosions in Dnipro and Mykolaiv began to emerge closer to 4:30 am. Then they were also heard in the Kyiv region.

As of 4:20 am, air raid sirens sounded throughout Ukraine, and at 6:13 am, the all-clear signal was announced.
