Russia attacks Ukraine with Kinzhal missiles: debris fell on children's hospital in Kyiv, air defense operates in Khmelnytskyi

In the morning, on August 11, Russian forces attacked several regions of Ukraine with missiles, explosions were heard in the capital, Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi regions

The Air Force warned of the launch of Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from MiG-31K in the direction of Kyiv region at 10:04 a.m. Soon after, explosions were heard in the capital. The Kyiv Military Administration reported that air defense forces were operating in Kyiv and the region.

Situation in Kyiv

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that rocket fragments fell on the territory of one of the capital's children's hospitals. Later he added that there were two more places where missile debris fell in the Obolon district of Kyiv. The roof of a private house was damaged. Also in Obolon, a fragment was found in an open area in one of the cottage cooperatives. There were no casualties.

The head of the Kyiv Military Administration, Serhiy Popko, said that according to preliminary information, several pieces of debris fell on the territory of the children's hospital in Obolon district. Data on casualties and damage are being investigated. 

Later, Kyiv Military Administration spokesman Mykhailo Shamanov told KIEV24 that the Russian army attacked the capital with Kinzhal missiles, but all missiles were shot down by air defense. He also added that all information on the number of missiles would be provided by the Ukrainian Air Force later.

Ruslan Kravchenko, the head of the Kyiv Regional Air Defense Administration, thanked the air defense forces on Telegram and urged residents of the region not to ignore the air raid alarm and take cover.

"Thank our air defense forces! No hits to critical or residential infrastructure were recorded in the region. There is no information on casualties or falling wreckage. I appeal to every resident of the region: do not ignore the air raid alarms! Take shelter," he said.

The Kyiv Military Administration's telegram channel noted that during the latest air attack in the capital, debris fell in the Dniprovskyi and Obolonskyi districts. 

"In the Obolon district of the city, debris fell on the territory of a children's hospital. There was no damage, no fire and no casualties. Debris was also found in one of the residential areas of the district. Emergency services examined the situation. The fire has been extinguished," the post reads.

The situation in Khmelnytskyi region

The first deputy head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Tyurin, wrote that air defense is operating in Khmelnytskyi.
