Russia attacks Ukraine with Shahed UAVs: 7 of them shot down in Odesa region

On the evening of December 22, Russia launched Shahed drones from the southern and northern directions. Drones attacked Odesa region, while others were flying through the center of Ukraine

This was reported by the Air Force.

After 6 pm, the threat of attack drones was announced in the Odesa region.

They were moving in the region in three directions:

  1. From the Black Sea in the direction of Koblevo, Mykolaiv region.
  2. In the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi region, heading north.
  3. From the Black Sea in the direction of Tatarbunary district.

At 8 p.m., the Air Force reported the all-clear signal.

Later, the Air Force announced the threat of drones in the Kherson and Dnipro regions.

"Movement of Shahed-type attack UAVs through the Mykolaiv/Dnipropetrovsk region in the direction of Kirovohrad region," the message said at 8:41 pm.

The UAVs were then in the Kirovohrad region and moving towards the Cherkasy region.

At 10:22 p.m., the Air Force reported: UAV in the Cherkasy region (Uman district), heading west.

At 10:35 p.m., an air raid alert was announced in the Vinnytsia region. At 10:55 p.m., the air force reported an air alert in the Sumy region due to the threat of attack UAVs.

There were also Shahed drones in the eastern part of Vinnytsia region, heading west. 

An hour later, the military reported the movement of drones toward Starokostiantyniv.

  1. On the border of Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions, heading west (Starokostiantyniv).
  2. In the southern part of Khmelnytskyi region, the drone changed its course to the north, presumably also to Starokostiantyniv.

Subsequently, Khmelnytskyi Mayor Oleksandr Symchyshyn thanked the Ukrainian Air Defense for their effective work.

Odesa region

Oleh Kiper, the head of the Military Administration, said that an explosive wave damaged the windows of one of the educational institutions in the Odesa district during the work of air defense forces. No one was killed or injured. 

The Southern Defense Forces added that 7 Russian targets were shot down by the Air Defense Forces.
