Russia approaches conflict with NATO
Russia's threats against Lithuania over reduced transit to Kaliningrad place it on a direct path to conflict with NATO.
At the same time, in the case of Ukraine, these are far-fetched, provocative threats. Ukraine, even if it managed to join NATO, didn't threaten Russia's security. Lithuania's decision to cancel part of the transit to Kaliningrad doesn't threaten this Russian region. Russia can supply cargo to the Kaliningrad region by sea.
But the Kremlin obviously wants a conflict. Moreover, Moscow was preparing for the conflict. It's clear where the senseless bill on the refusal to recognize the independence of Lithuania came from in the State Duma. Why Lithuania, when the USSR State Council in 1991 recognized the independence of the three Baltic states? And because Lithuania may be Putin's first target in the region.
But the conflict with Lithuania isn't a conflict with Ukraine. This is a conflict with NATO. This is WWIII. Are Vladimir Putin and his gang ready for such a turn of events?
