Romania will keep supporting Ukraine, new president says
Romania’s new president, Nicușor Dan, has confirmed that the country will keep supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s full-scale invasion
He made the statement on Monday during the Bucharest Nine summit in Vilnius, according to Digi24.
Dan was asked if Romania would be more transparent about its military aid to Ukraine. He responded that he hadn’t yet “been able to assess what the benefits and risks are.”
“Either way, Romania will keep supporting Ukraine, because this is about our own security,” he said.
“It’s one thing to be in the current situation — with Ukraine as a neighbor on our eastern border, with whom we’ve had an agreement since 1997 — and another thing entirely to have Russia, or a country… that’s turning into Belarus,” the Romanian president added.
He mentioned that he plans to discuss military assistance in more detail during a visit to Ukraine, which could happen soon.
