Reuters reports that Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said that the company may start production of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems in Germany.
The production capacity of 155-mm shells can be increased to 450,000 - 500,000 per year. This would make Rheinmetall the largest producer of both types of ammunition.
“We can produce 240,000 rounds of tank ammunition (120mm) per year, which is more than the entire world needs,” Papperger said.
In 2022, Rheinmetall produced about 60,000 to 70,000 units of each of the tank and artillery shells. Demand increased sharply after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
