Resolution recognizing Russia as sponsor of terrorism may have practical consequences in near future - Tetyana Vysotska
On the air of the Spotlight Ukraine program, Tetyana Vysotska, special correspondent in the European institutions, talked about the European Parliament's resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, its practical consequences, as well as EUR 18 billion in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.
This is reported on Spotlight Ukraine | Espreso TV Channel.
On November 23, members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. It states that Russia is committing indiscriminate attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, as a result of which thousands of people have died. Tetyana Vysotska says that such a decision may have practical consequences in the near future.
“This resolution may have practical consequences in the very near future. Because in the official documents of the European Parliament it is written that this is a step on the way for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his government to be held accountable for the war crimes before the international tribunal. And the next practical step is the creation by the European Union of the list of the terrorist states, and Russia will be put in this list, so the EU will apply more severe sanctions for that,” she said, adding that Russian paramilitary groups such as the Wagner PMC will be included in the list of terorrist organizations.
Tetyana Vysotska also noted that the European Parliament will provide Ukraine with EUR 18 billion of macro-financial assistance for 2023, and this will cover “almost half of Ukraine's international aid needs for the next year.”
