Bloomberg reported the information.
It noted that the pipeline is 170 km long - from the Serbian city of Nis to the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and has an annual capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters. This could cover up to 60% of Serbia's consumption.
The new line would allow Serbia to access alternative gas supplies from Greece or Azerbaijan, and provide Bulgaria with access to gas from Western Europe or the Adriatic Sea.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony in Nis on Sunday, December 10.
In early February 2023, the presidents of Bulgaria and Serbia laid the foundation stone for the construction of a gas pipeline that will help reduce the countries' dependence on fuel supplies from Russia.
