Putin will strike at NATO in the Baltics, if he wins in Ukraine - Vice President of the European Commission
Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to increase his military ambitions and challenge NATO in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia if he is not stopped in Ukraine
This was stated by Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis in an interview with Politico.
Based on the experience of the Latvian Prime Minister, Dombrovskis noted that the EU should take the Russian threat seriously.
"If we do not support Ukraine, it will not stop in Ukraine. Obviously, Putin is now in an aggressive military mood, and, unfortunately, it is likely that this aggression will continue in other countries," he said.
The Vice President of the European Commission is of particular concern to the Baltic States.
"If you look at the escalation of Russia's aggressive rhetoric and even the statement that Russia supports Belarusian interests in access to the Baltic Sea and the growing anti-Baltic rhetoric - in Ukraine it also began with the strengthening of anti-Ukrainian rhetoric," Dombrovskis said.
The prediction that the Baltic states may be next in Putin's field of view after the invasion of Ukraine reflects concern in some European Commission circles about Putin's next step.
Recognizing the serious nuclear threat from Russia, Dombrovskis warns against a policy of reassuring the Russian president.
"The question is, how vulnerable are we to this blackmail, because it can be used constantly against everything? Putin will continue his aggressive wars, he will always use this blackmail. These are lessons that should have been learned earlier. by all means," he said.
