Putin was not interested: US National Security Adviser on pre-war attempts to negotiate with Russia

The US President's National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, says that before the war, the US offered compromises to Russia, but Putin was not interested

The national security adviser to the US president said this in an interview with Dozhd TV.

Sullivan said that until February 24, the United States "were very active in a diplomatic sense". US President Joe Biden called Putin regularly, and the US proposal was recorded on paper and made public.

"We made proposals to say: the US will not deploy missiles and combat units in Ukraine on a long-term basis. The US was ready to discuss with the Russian government an agreement in which the training and flights of the bombers would be much more transparent to reduce the risks of possible misunderstanding or misjudgment", Sullivan said.

But Vladimir Putin was not interested in it, Sullivan noted.

"Він хотів війни, а зараз Путін ясно дав зрозуміти, що він не зацікавлений у тому, щоб повернутися за стіл переговорів, щоб насправді дійти дипломатичного рішення", - заявив радник президента США з нацбезпеки.

"He wanted war, and now Putin has made it clear that he is not interested in returning to negotiations to actually reach a diplomatic solution", the US president's national security adviser said.
