Ukraine’s Prosecutor General launches investigation into Russian lawmakers over Donetsk, Luhansk recognition
The Ukrainian Prosecutor General has stated that 418 Russian lawmakers are currently under suspicion in Ukraine for encouraging the violation of Ukrainian territorial integrity.
In a statement, the Prosecutor General noted that as early as February 15, 2022, 418 out of 450 members of the Russian Duma (parliament) supported a resolution asking Putin to consider recognizing the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR as independent, sovereign states.
This puts them in violation of Part 3, Article 110 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.
These lawmakers then, on February 22, supported the ratification of agreements on friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance between Russian and the two regions of Ukraine.
All the individuals concerned have now been notified, the Prosecutor’s office stated. The pre-trial investigation is underway, carried out by investigative divisions of regional departments under the Ukrainian security service.
